For seven years he’s fought for his country. Now he’ll fight for her.

Army Ranger Dare Conners has been through hell. He’s left combat behind, yet the memories that refuse to fade are proving just as dangerous. Ordered to take R&R, he joins his buddy for beaches, beers, and babes—if that can’t cure him, nothing will. But when he meets Berkeley, a woman who affects him like no one else, a new kind of battle begins . . .

An Admiral’s daughter, Berkeley knows her life has been planned since birth. The right school, the right boyfriend—and now that she’s graduated—the right marriage. But after years of being right, Berkley is ready to be a little wrong. And Dare Conners has wrong written all over him. The sexy soldier has a body built for sin and secrets he won’t share. What starts as a fling quickly grows into something more. But summer can’t last forever, and when the truth comes out, both Berkeley and Dare could be in for quite a fall.

About Diana Gardin

Diana Gardin was born and raised combing the coasts of Southeastern Virginia. She is now a happy resident of South Carolina as she married into an enormous Carolina-rooted family. She loves the beach, and even more than that she loves to read while sitting on the beach.

While writing was always a passion of Diana’s, she enrolled in college to become an elementary-school teacher. After eight years of teaching in both Virginia and South Carolina, she decided to stay at home with her first child. This decision is what opened her eyes to the fact that she still very much loved to write, and her first novel was written.

My Review:
5 stars!!
Last True Hero is a contemporary/Military (sorta) romance. And I loved every second of it! This book has you swooning and curling your toes from a very early point-- the writing is so well done that you feel as if you are actually a part of what is going on in the book, even if its just in your head. LOL
Dare Conners is a "recently" (and that is in quotations because recently is relative) discharged Army Ranger, looking for somewhere to finally settle down and build a life. Growing up in group homes and then going strait into the Army, he never settled in one place for very long. Finding himself in Lone Sands with an old Army Comrade named Drake, Dare does his best to try and build a life, even if it isn't the one that he loved and felt he needed to be doing.
Berkeley Holtz is the only daughter of a Navy Admiral and every moment and step in her life has been planned out for her by her Military father and her Socialite mother. They want nothing more for her than to become the prestigious Officer's wife that her mother is, by marrying her close family friend Grisham. Meeing Mea, Berkeley's best friend, in high school changed her life, and showed her who she really wanted to be.
"But inside that girl, another is fighting to claw her way to the surface. The real me, just waiting for a chance to spread her wings. The me who loves to run around in funny T-shirts and cutoffs."
After much fighting she was able to avoid going to an Ivy-League school and attend a four-year-college closer to home, and get her degree in interior design. Freshly graduated, she has returned home and is working again at See Food, a restaurant that has become her home away from home and the owners her second parents that she always prayed for. The last thing she ever expected was to run into the hotness that was Dare.
"I get a lot of guys like you in here. Can you understand that? I don't date customers." ... "Especially not military customers."
After running into each other a few times, the chemistry is undeniable, each time getting harder for them to fight what was happening between them.
"Damn him and his funny quips and his ridiculously hot body and his perfect face and his subtle internal darkness."
"I Picture her in my had and realize I never had a chance. It's impossible to to... feel when I 'm around her."
While all of this falling for each other is going on, Berkeley is dealing with her "complicated" life, trying to make a stand for her own choices while still having a loving relationship with her parents, and trying not to hurt Grisham, who loves her, even though she doesn't feel the same way about him. And Dare's foster brother comes to town, begging for Dare to dig him out of yet another mess that he has made, and dragging his trouble right along with him to Dare's doorstep.

When all is said and done, I loved this book so much, that I have notes scribbled all in my copy, highlights upon highlights of the sexy times and the sappy times. It made me laugh love and cry all at the same time and I would recommend this book to anyone with a pulse :-P At the very end I found a sneak peek of the next book in the series called Saved by the SEAL-- and while I am very excited to read Grisham's Story, I would love love love to see a book for Drake and Mea-- Cause common how perfect would that be? :)
